Okay so I just finished The Bridge Kingdom and I could not put it down, I read the whole thing in 24 hours and then just — kept going, straight into book two, no cool-down period, no "let me sit with my feelings first," nothing, just immediately 30% into the next one like my toddler wasn't going to wake up in six hours.

I love a good betrayal trope, I really do, and did I see this one coming — yes. It is not hidden. The book is not being sneaky about it. And it still had me screaming. Actually out loud. At my Kindle. Like it could hear me and needed to know how I felt about its choices.

then I did the unhinged thing

I finished the last page and did not stop to process anything, I just opened book two, and that's genuinely rare for me because my TBR is basically a hostage situation at this point and books have to fight for that kind of immediate follow-through. This one didn't even have to fight. It just happened.

"Did I see it coming? Yes. Did I still scream at this book? Also yes."

a quick note on the audiobook because I know someone's going to ask

I did try the audio version — it's free with Audible Plus, which is great to know if you're trying to be smart about this series instead of buying everything separately like I usually do. But I'd already started reading it myself, and going back to audio after that just didn't mesh, the narrators weren't who I already had in my head for these characters. So back to reading it went. Not a knock on the narration, just — once you've built the voices yourself, it's hard to let someone else hand you new ones.

Anyway. If you've read this one, I need to know if the betrayal wrecked you the way it wrecked me, because I am currently deep into book two and a little bit scared of what's coming next. Tell me in the comments.
